When CARIMI broke up, a lot of talk in the industry arose about WHICH BAND IS GOING TO TAKE THEIR SPOT.....then RICHARD CAVE announced that he would be creating a new band KAI...with some new members, and a few old Carimi members. Having said all that, being that RICHARD CAVE was one of the main composers of the group, also one of their hit makers, as well as the vocalist on a few of those hit songs....would it be wrong to assume that CARIMI FANS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BECOME KAI FANS?

Will the CARIMI fan base automatically jump ship and embark on the new adventure with the band leader of their former beloved group; or is that NOT an automatic simply because we CAN'T forget that MICKAEL and CARLO also had lots of fans themselves; and we have no way of knowing how many of THEIR FOLLOWERS are not willing to give "KAI" a chance....since MIKE and KARL are NOT on board.

KAI's first single "MALADE" can be seen as a song that could be taken out of a CARIMI musical catalog. THAT ALONE goes a long way in helping the fans that were on the fence make up their minds about if they plan to go along for the ride; or MAYBE they will decide to see HOW THE BAND PLAYS "LIVE"....to see if they can find the same vibes or other positive vibes from KAI....that they used to get from CARIMI. OTHERS are waiting on THE STUDIO CD to see how they will cope in having to listen to RICHARD CAVE sing the majority ...IF NOT ALL of the songs...when back in CARIMI, they were used to him singing 1 or 2 songs per CD.

If we are breaking it down and being totally fair......THE FUTURE WILL TELL IF THE CARIMI FANS HAVE NOW JOINED THE "KAI" REVOLUTION and in the process helped KAI "keep" CARIMI's place in the HMI ladder; or if CARIMI fans have closed the chapter on that group REGARDLESS if the band leader is leading the charge for "KAI"...and in the process decide to tell Richard Cave....PROVE YOURSELF AGAIN and show me what "KAI" has.

Even though the first song has been received EXTREMELY WELL.....THERE IS NO CLEAR CUT ANSWER to the question yet. THE FUTURE WILL TELL!

In the words of Kai's lead singer...."SE PA MINM KAY, NOU FER YON LOT BAGAY"

There is nothing to suggest CARIMI fans will automatically become KAI fans. the only automatic is R. Cave fans will be fans of KAI. but there are a number of factors that made CaRiMi what it was that KAI doesn't have; most glaring is No "CA" or "MI"

Personally KAI's first single in my opinion doesnt at all sound like a typical CaRiMi track...se lot bagay vre...its not far off so I dont think Richard will have trouble winning alot of CaRiMi fans over to his new KAI...but there are no gaurantees...esp since you have T-Vice, Harmonik, Kreyol La and others that can compete for those fans.

This is a tough one. Some Carimi fans will stick around for sure, but most of them aren't going to jump into KAI's ship. Also, I heard KAI isn't a NY base band. I can't confirm it. If they are not base in NY, that could cost them some NY fans. RC gon bel defi/challenge nan men li.

RICHARD CAVE lives in NYC....so do the former CARIMI members that are part of the group. Maybe they are trying the CARIMI approach of NOT WANTING TO BE SEEN as a LOCAL NYC band....but make no mistake about it....SE NYC JAZ LA YE!

That's a tough one! But Kai played all the right cards in this poker game!!!

1. The Carimi factor. Richard was the maestro of the band. Yes Carlo, Mikael did influence Carimi's sound. But make no mistake, Richard was the glue that put it all together. Carimi fans ate up out of his hand. Yes he is trying to do something different, but i have no doubt that he will. But a man can't change who is 100%. That residual glue will stick to to the majority of Carimi fans out there. Based on his recent surprised live appearance, the glue hasn't dried up one bit.

2. They wasted no time. Kai capitalized enormously on the fact that the Carimi nostalgy is fresh on the mind of the fans. From my own observation, that song, "Malade," has an entirely different connotation for Carimi fans. When they sing this song, it's as if they are reassuring Richard that he was the medication they were looking for!
