CHARLOTVICE makes interesting observation on the HMI market!
_____________
HMI "COMPAS DIGITAL" pioneer and former TOP VICE maestro ROBERT CHARLOT made this very interesting observation to KOMPA MAGAZINE. Check it out below.
*KOMPA MAGAZINE: Do you think a band with TOP VICE's format (4 musicians) could work in the HMI market TODAY...with major success?
ROBERT CHARLOT: "In my opinion, it would be way easier nowadays to have a Digital 3-4 piece band format, simply because the public is more tolerant NOW than before. The proof: We even have a DJ + 3 as one of the Top groups in the market. We have solo artists entertaining large venues with only a dj backing them up.
Back when I started, a Compas band was known as 11 to 18 players jamming on some hard and heavy beats, mostly uptempos. To come out with a 3 piece band with no drums, no congas, no gong, no rhythm guitar, no horns, no bass at first and to break into the Compas circle of that time/era was not an easy challenge. We had to overcome the skepticism and reluctance of the fans especially in Martinique, Guadeloupe, France and Haiti."
