23 "SONGBIRDS" to keep an eye on for 2017/2018!

In years past, maybe going back a decade or two, you could count on 1 hand...2 hands to be safe, the number of HMI songstresses that we could say "mattered". Artists that were seen as credible and relevant in the eyes of the fans and music observers.

Now that we are in 2017, I can tell you that the market has changed in regards to what we brought up above. We will tell you some artists that you will need to keep your eyes on for the rest of 2017...going to 2018. NO DOUBT that some of them have already made a name for themselves...some more so than others.

PS: THE QUEEN EMELINE MICHEL is on another level...so we PRAISE her here once again without having to put her on the list because SHE IS ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL.

(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)

Image
*RUTSHELLE: Currently seen as the heir to the throne. Just released her brand new CD "Rebelle" on the market. The queen of social media in terms of followers among artists. Currently has a major hit on her hands with Richard Cave's Kai with "Kanse". Is currently at the top of the food chain right now and shows no signs of slowing down. One of her best traits in our opinion, is her NOT letting her haters get to her, as she just brushes them off by either ignoring or laughing them off. She is also an artist who has every right to ACT LIKE A DEMANDING DIVA because she has earned it with her popularity...but SHE ACTS LIKE A REGULAR "NO EGO" chick down the block....and that scores a lot of points for her with a lot of people. She shows no sign of giving up her position in the market right now.

Image
*PHYLISSIA ROSS: The darling of many....composer/musician/sex symbol. She is also huge in several non-Haitian markets, which gives her a huge advantage over many artists in the game. Can only expect her popularity to keep going up as she's already proven that she is NOT a flash in the pan. The "TOTAL" artist in the true sense of the word. We also love the fact that she always seems to back up her single releases with a music video.....MARKETING GENIUS. Busy booking calendar is NO COINCIDENCE. She is ahead of many in the pack.

Image
*ANNIE ALERTE: Is seen as the handpicked successor to the throne of Emeline Michel based on her being publicly given the seal of approval from her majesty Emeline herself. Has already scored major points during guest appearances at major HMI shows, which only indicates that her star is rising. Gives the perception that she is an easy going girl next door type...easily approachable...and oh yes...we are big fans of her GYM WORKOUTS on social media. (Joke...LOL). As a matter of fact...when is the "next" scheduled one Annie? Annie...yon moun pa bezwen "PI BON ZANMI W" pou di w that your star is shining bright right now. KEEP IT SHINING!

Image
*FATIMA: Has the golden voice that can put Hummingbirds to sleep. She is not only a very talented vocalist with her own band, her super model looks also might tend to send some guys into a frenzy. She has the advantage of being "known" in both the MOTHERLAND market, as well as the U.S.A market....even though she still needs more work in terms of marketing herself in the USA. Very opinionated on social media, and won't hesitate to state her piece about something if she feels the need to. On the verge of bursting through if you ask me....easily one of the top 5 upcoming female artists in the game.

Image
*KASOUMEE: Drop dead gorgeous with lots of swag to match when performing. Don't let the innocent and smiling vixen look fool you.....when she gets down to business...she is BAAAAAAD TO THE BONE with her rap skills and stage presence. She must also be commended for the way she markets herself with her mini videos (Vlogs) every time she performs. She is also very good at keeping her fans on their toes by constantly changing her look...sometimes almost too much. Another thing that we adore about her is the element of surprise in her songs. She mixes things up. She will sometime SING on a whole song (Allelujah). Rap on a whole song, or SING/RAP mix (Elles sont toujours la) on a song. That shows versatility. We are huge fans of the "K" lady. Watch her video "Elles sont toujours la".

Image
*PRINCESS EUD: We've been huge fans of the Princess for the longest ever since we saw her perform in person back in 2010 in NY at SOBS with Carimi. Strong rap game and very versatile and funny. CHARISMA with a capital "C" and her sexiness is at a very high level...if I must say so myself. Just released a brand new CD on the market Eudomination, of course without forgetting her foray into the fashion world with her own line, as well as the movie field. Keep on doing you EUD.

Image
*SHISHIE: Extremely talented artist who can sing and who is also an accomplished comedian. Her recent "DEPACITO" (No s) with popular comedian Atis Panch, as well as her "Cherie Banm Tou" with comedian Matyas, has many people laughing their asses off non-stop, including yours truly who simply can't get enough of Shishie. Oh...did we also mention that she has the beauty to match as well? She is not new to many people in Haiti, but we expect her to up her game and expand her brand for 2017/2018, and become more popular than she is right now, especially in the U.S. Her and Fatima are like sisters....such is their friendship. We have high hopes for this talented artist....and her popularity is on the verge of exploding even more in our opinion. She seems to have that MUSIC/COMEDY music video formula on lock....no rivals there....for now. Her STRAIGHT IN YOUR FACE persona appeals to a lot of people....including yours truly. I LOOOOOOOOVE me some SHIESHIE...no doubt!

Image
*AYIITI: She caught our attention with that song/video "VOODOO YOU DO", as well as her latest "ZEPTIMA". Very cool down to earth talented vocalist who has released material before in the American market. She seems more keen these days to connect with her Haitian roots if her 2 latest singles with the Muska group is any indication, and we have hopped on that Ayïti bandwagon from the word go. Her down to earth easy going personality is also a MAJOR PLUS in my eyes.

Image
*QUEEN BEE: A very talented young lady well respected on the HMI circuit among her peers in Haiti. She still hasn't gotten the break that she needs in order to expose her fabulous vocal skills all over HMI land; but we're hoping all that changes in the upcoming year because she is worth it. We're jumping on that QUEEN BEE train right now...before there's no more seats on there.

Image
*NISKA: Has been doing her thing on the rap kreyol scene for the longest. Poet, rapper, model, Illustrator...also very involved with kids in Haiti through a few foundations. Most compas fans will recognize her as the leading lady for the Djakout #1 music video "Libre D'aimer" with Steeve Khe, but those in the rap game already know what she's all about.....because she is wayyyyyy more than that in the motherland. Currently working on her first studio kreyol album. Sex symbol to the highest degree to many fans and artists. NISKA TELMAN CHO...SI W TOUCHE L....WAP BOULE! (Compliment)

Image
*DARLINE DESCA: Released a CD on the market not too long ago, Ms DESCA is slowly but surely raising her profile in the market. Very vibrant performer whose potential is very high if she keeps doing what she's doing. She needs to raise her marketing game/profile to stay as visible or more as some ladies currently in the game. She does have an advantage on a lot of her competition because she already has a full CD out on the market.

Image
*MIKAELLE AIMEE CARTWRIGHT: Talented guitarist/vocalist with a relentless drive to get to where she wants to be as an artist. EXTREMELY PASSIONATE about her music. Her profile has been raised because she does quite a few gigs to share her talent with different audiences (YES she caters to non-Haitian markets), and will get far because she just does NOT take "NO" for an answer...if she believes in something. Most will remember her as the leading lady in Kreyol La's music video, but she has proven to be more than just a pretty face. Hoping she teams up on a duet or guest stars on a song with a popular vocalist/group to EXPAND her "music" brand (There were rumors of an ALAN CAVE duet...not sure where that's at...maybe one with TI JOE ZENNY?). Mikaelle has all the tools to make it, it's just a matter of making all the right moves to take her to the next level.

Image
*JACIE CALIXTE: Has been doing her thing in the Boston area for a minute now; but is still not as well known as she should be in our opinion. She got a huge exposure break when she sang the National Anthem at the 2017 Miami Haitian Compas Festival, but as long as we've known of her being in the market, we think her talent deserves to have been further along in terms of exposure. Maybe 2017/2018 will be her year because we absolutely believe that she can soar to higher heights if given the proper chance. EXPAND her choice of music producers in terms of material....could be a start.

Image
*MISS DYNE: One of the most daring artists in the business today...who also makes NO EXCUSES about using her sex appeal to the MAX...and she has the looks and physique to back it up. All you have to do is take a peak at her instagram page....SHE'S NO JOKE! HEAT with a capital "H". Our own Haitian NICKY MENAJ (minus the wardrobe) if you ask me. Extremely daring on stage as well. Keep an eye on her.

Image
*MICKAEL ARTIST: This NYC rapper has been doing her thing for a minute with her now defunct band BEL. She's now riding on the solo tip (Seen as a Wanito protege...as they are VERY VERY VERY CLOSE....LOL). You want "SWAG"....it's dripping all over her. Started dropping some of her solo joints on the market this past year...expect more on the way. GREAT FASHION SENSE & BRANDING of her product.

Image
*LOKA (Kiks Liska Ambroise & Laure Inee): MOST FANS probably have never heard of them, but I can tell you that for quite a few artists in the HMI who are "HIP" and in the know....these 2 are no strangers. I am expecting BIG THINGS from this duo...who also operate as solo artists as well. LOTS OF SOUL in their voices, and they are versatile in terms of the music that they can sing. We've heard compas, Reggae, Pop renditions from both artists and they don't even have any original material out yet...but we are already HUGE FANS of the two because we see the extraordinary potential that they have. What will they do with it? That is the answer that many are waiting on. A lot of stars on the HMI circuit are aware of their talent...because they are followers of the duo. I am a big fan of the potential that they have.

Image
*SASKYA SKY: Little by little she is creeping up on the market. She just started, but she is still waiting on that BOMB of a track that will shoot her up the HMI ladder. Patience is a virtue they say, and she looks to have the motivation and patience to make it to the next level. She also has some funny comedy skits that she does on social media as well. We're watching you Saskya.

Image
*MAGIC GIRLS: These 2 have gotten the attention of many in the Rap Kreyol game and in 2017/2018, they look like they are planning to expand the brand. Under the Ron Diesel management.

Image
*REBECCA ZAMA: Out of BOSTON, backed up by producer Sexy Beef on her latest release "Can't let you go", she is looking for the commercial breakthrough to take her to the next level. She has been doing her thing in Beantown for a good minute now. She is very versatile in terms of the music that she can sing/perform.

Image
*VANESSA DESIRE: This hot talented vocalist/rapper is getting DEEPER and DEEPER into the minds of many music followers ever since her debut on the scene. (DEEPER the name of her latest video featuring PJay). Has featured on a few collabos with Troubleboy, Toby among others....just needs that mainstream hit song to push her over the hump. Expect to hear more from her in the market.

Image
*SHERLEE SKAI: She just released a brand new CD "TOUTOUNI" on the market after taking a little hiatus to complete the project. Let's see what the CD will do for her in terms of leaving her imprints on the market. Good luck with the CD Sherlee.

Image
*SYBELLE: Caught the attention of many with her duet with mentor Alan Cave earlier this year. She has also showcased bits and pieces of her talent on her social media page...and we can't wait to see what else she has in store for us in the near future.

Image
*MALIDA: Another songstress from the Boston area who is simply NOT just about the music. She is a major part of the newly created WHMI team who promises to take ladies in the market to another level.

KEEP AN EYE on these ladies for 2017/2018.......I got my popcorn ready. GAME ON LADIES!!!!!!!!!

Love this! This ONE TO WATCH list fills my heart with joy. I look forward to seeing and hearing what these FIERCE artists have in store for us. This is a very exciting time for OUR MUSIC if your paying attention.

And if I may be so bold I would add Riva Nyri Prècil who is a Haitian-American singer, songwriter, and author to your list.

One Love!
